Shades of reds and blue are used in the magnificent radiating design that adorns this large plate. Its base is covered with a rosace motif made up of patterned segments embellished with flowers, while the border around its rim alternates foliage with cartouches. The delicacy of the rosace brings to mind a work of embroidery. An incident during firing, probably the result of too high a temperature, has caused the cobalt blue to run in places, in the centre and on the rim. Despite this, blue and red decoration is a sign that Rouen earthenware production has reached maturity.
